Giving
Your gift to the Center for Women’s Health and Wellness helps support and grow our mission to inspire girls and women to lead healthy, active lifestyles, and reach their full potential for mental and physical health and well‐being.
WHY GIVE?
Your gift is more than just a contribution – it has a real and direct impact on our students, faculty, community and most importantly the lives of girls and women. Your gifts help build the Center’s capacity to conduct high quality research on women’s health and wellness, to support programs that directly impact the lives of girls and women, and to equip and support the next generation of scholars, educators and practitioners to address critical areas of women’s health and wellness.

Existing Opportunities
- CWHW Center Fund – Individual donations of any size are given for discretionary spending.
- Loretta M. Williams Undergraduate CWHW Research Fund – to support an undergraduate student to conduct research focused on women’s health and wellness.
- Active Girls-Healthy Girls– to provide sport, exercise, and physical activity opportunities for girls through evidence-based life lessons and a community-based emphasis on physical activity and wellness.
- Doris S. Tanger Fund – to promote and enhance collaborative research, and disseminate research-based information related to women’s health and wellness.
Opportunities to Support New Strategic Initiatives

YOUR GIFT IN ACTION
“I worked under the guidance of my mentors, Jessica Dollar and Jaclyn Maher. This experience allowed me to engage deeply in the research process, from participant recruitment and data collection to analysis and interpretation. It played a significant role in shaping my academic interests and confirming my newfound passion for research.” – Alexa Villareal
Meet Alexa Villareal, who has benefited from the generosity and opportunities afforded by the William’s Scholar. During her time as a Williams Scholar, Alexa worked with the Adolescent Girls Physical Activity study at the Department of Kinesiology conducting research closely aligned with her research interests. A highlight of Alexa’s experience was developing her own research questions and conducting data analysis based on the initial study’s data. She then had the opportunity to present her findings at the 2023 and 2024 UNCG Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo as well as the 2024 SEACSM conference in Greenville, SC, where she shared her research on the “Effects of Psychosocial Predictors on Female Adolescents’ Daily Physical Activity.” Currently, Alexa lives in Maryland and works as a Regional Education Coordinator at a mental health nonprofit. She provides suicide prevention and mental health first aid training for adults and caregivers of adolescents, continuing her passion for mental health awareness and community education. In the next few years, Alexa plans to return to school for graduate studies and hopes to work on more research projects, further exploring her interest in the realm of physical activity and mental health.
