2026 Fall Research Forum with Dr. Kathryn Schmitz

The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness is hosting a Research Forum to showcase scholarly work relevant to women’s health and wellness at UNCG.
This in-person event will take place on Friday, October 16th, 2026 from 8:30a-1:00p. This event will be on campus, exact location TBD. We have identified an amazing keynote speaker, Dr. Kathryn Schmitz, who is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, the Deputy Director of the Hillman Cancer Center, and Founding Director of Moving Through Cancer Program at UMPC. Dr. Schmitz’s work has been instrumental in establishing exercise as a standard component of cancer care and informing exercise guidelines for individuals living with and beyond cancer. Drawing from her experiences conducting practice-changing research, she will share insights on translating scientific evidence into real-world programs, clinical practice, and health policy.
We also plan to hold a discussion panel titled “Building Partnerships for Public Impact: Moving Evidence into Action.” A panel of experts including Dr. Schmitz and other UNCG faculty will discuss lessons learned in developing successful partnerships and explore different pathways for translating research into applied settings that create meaningful community impact.
The event will conclude with a Facilitated Lunch, “What Does Impact Mean in Your Work?”, providing an opportunity for attendees to connect, reflect, and discuss how research can drive positive change across diverse settings.
