2026 Active Girls-Healthy Girls Spring Break Camp

3rd Annual AGHG Spring Break Camp
Our BIGGEST AGHG Camp yet!
This spring, seventy eight 4th–6th grade girls from across Guilford County joined us at UNC Greensboro for the third annual Active Girls-Healthy Girls Spring Break Camp. Over three days, campers experienced movement, laughter, learning, and connection in a space designed to help them feel strong, confident, and supported.
Hosted during Guilford County Schools’ spring break, the camp continued to fulfill its mission of providing girls with meaningful opportunities to be physically active while learning about health, wellness, and leadership. The camp was led by UNCG’s Center for Women’s Health and Wellness in partnership with UNCG RecWell and was generously supported by our main donor, the Dawn S. Chaney Foundation, as well as Greensboro Sports Foundation, the Center for Athlete Well-being, Marco’s Pizza, and Chick-fil-A, allowing the experience to remain completely free for participating girls

WHAT A DAY AT CAMP LOOKED LIKE
Every day presented new exciting activities!
Each day began with excitement and energy. Some campers were picked up by the Spartan Chariot and welcomed with breakfast, matching t-shirts, and water bottles before beginning a full day of activities.
Throughout the three days, girls rotated through a wide variety of physical activity sessions that introduced them to new ways of moving, playing, and building confidence. Campers participated in activities such as volleyball, pickleball, dance, yoga, and swimming, giving them opportunities to try new things, challenge themselves, and discover forms of movement they truly enjoyed.
In addition to physical activity, campers also took part in educational sessions focused on whole-person wellness. Topics included nutrition, sleep, emotional well-being, and positive social support, helping girls better understand how to care for both their bodies and minds. Each day also included time for reflection, discussion, and connection, giving campers the opportunity to process what they learned and build community with one another and with the counselors who guided them throughout the week.

NEW THIS YEAR
Past campers always wanted to swim, so AGHG made it happen!
This year’s camp included several exciting new additions that quickly became camper favorites. One of the most highly anticipated activities was the pool, and it did not disappoint. Campers had a blast in the water and were thrilled to have swimming included as part of the camp experience.
We also introduced self-defense as a new activity this year, giving girls the opportunity to learn practical skills while building confidence and body awareness. Another new workshop focused on body image and social media navigation, creating space for meaningful conversations about confidence, self-perception, and how to navigate digital spaces in healthy and empowering ways. This workshop was a major hit and became one of the standout educational sessions of the week.

TOOLS FOR CONTINUED LEARNING
The manual helps the girls remember what they learned at camp when they go back home!
As always, each camper received an AGHG manual to take home at the end of camp. The manual was designed to extend the camp experience beyond those three days by giving girls opportunities to keep moving, reflecting, and learning at home. It included activities they could do on their own, along with material connected to some of the educational topics they explored during camp.
To continue that learning after camp, campers also received access to SpringSpot, an interactive app with materials that complemented what they learned throughout the week.
Together, the manual and app gave girls resources they could return to after camp and reinforced the idea that health, movement, and confidence can continue to grow long after camp ends.

A CAMP BUILT ON PREPARATION AND COMMUNITY
We could not do this without all the support!
This year’s camp was made possible not only through generous community support, but also through intentional preparation behind the scenes. For the first time, thanks to an internal grant, we were able to train a group of our undergraduate counselors to help them feel prepared to support campers and create the best experience possible. This additional investment in training helped strengthen the camp environment and ensured that girls were welcomed into a space that was thoughtful, supportive, and well organized.
All camp activities were led by experts or individuals with experience in their fields, helping provide campers with high-quality instruction across both movement and educational sessions. We also worked intentionally to keep our personnel primarily female so that girls could see themselves reflected in the people leading them: active, well-rounded, empowering women who modeled confidence, leadership, and joy in movement.
Led by a passionate team of UNCG students, alumni, faculty, and community members, AGHG 2026 created a welcoming environment where girls could move, learn, and grow together. Through these collective efforts, we were able to offer an experience that was joyful, inclusive, and rooted in community
