2025 National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Day of Play – A Resounding Success!
On February 1st 2025, our Active Girls-Healthy Girls team, in partnership with Greensboro Parks and Recreation, hosted an unforgettable event to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) at UNCG’s Middle College. More than 50 girls joined us for an exciting morning filled with sports, inspiration, and empowerment.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to engage in pickleball, basketball, softball, and flag football, while hearing powerful stories about the incredible growth of girls’ sports—highlighting milestones like the rise of high school flag football and the increasing opportunities for girls in traditionally male-dominated sports like wrestling. The message was clear: there is no limit to what girls can achieve in sports! #GirlsRule
Adding to the inspiration, UNCG varsity athletes joined us to share their experiences of competing at the collegiate level. They spoke about the friendships, personal growth, and opportunities that come with being a student-athlete—gaining a second family, excelling in their sport, earning a degree, and shaping their future. Their stories showed the young participants that playing sports can open doors far beyond the field or court.
This incredible event was made possible by the support of Greensboro Parks and Recreation, volunteers from Beyond Sports, UNCG Athletics, and our very own Center for Women’s Health and Wellness. Together, we created a space where young girls could build confidence, form connections, and celebrate the power of sports.
The energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie of the day reminded us all why events like these matter. Sports empower, unite, and inspire—and we can’t wait to keep championing opportunities for girls in athletics.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event a success!
Do not hesitate to keep the fun going and register for this year’s NGWSD and our Active Girls-Healthy Girls (AGHG) 2026 Spring Break Camp.
