SUMMARY:2026 Fall Research Forum with Dr. Kathryn Schmitz
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness is hosting a Research Forum to showcase scholarly work relevant to women’s health and wellness at UNCG.   \nThis in-person event will take place on Friday\, October 16th\, 2026 from 8:30a-1:00p. This event will be on campus\, exact location TBD. We have identified an amazing keynote speaker\, Dr. Kathryn Schmitz\, who is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh\, the Deputy Director of the Hillman Cancer Center\, and Founding Director of Moving Through Cancer Program at UMPC.  Dr. Schmitz’s work has been instrumental in establishing exercise as a standard component of cancer care and informing exercise guidelines for individuals living with and beyond cancer. Drawing from her experiences conducting practice-changing research\, she will share insights on translating scientific evidence into real-world programs\, clinical practice\, and health policy.  \nWe also plan to hold a discussion panel titled “Building Partnerships for Public Impact: Moving Evidence into Action.” A panel of experts including Dr. Schmitz and other UNCG faculty will discuss lessons learned in developing successful partnerships and explore different pathways for translating research into applied settings that create meaningful community impact.  \nThe event will conclude with a Facilitated Lunch\, “What Does Impact Mean in Your Work?”\, providing an opportunity for attendees to connect\, reflect\, and discuss how research can drive positive change across diverse settings.  \nResearch Forum Event Details:  \nDate: Friday\, October 16th\, 2026  \nTentative Schedule:  \n8:30am: Breakfast/Welcome  \n9:00am: Keynote Address  \n10:30am: Panel Discussion  \n11:45am: Facilitated Networking Lunch  \n1:00pm: End of Research Forum  \nStay tuned for additional registration information and event updates\, including the event location. SUMMARY:Active Girls - Healthy Girls Spring Break Camp
DESCRIPTION:Our Active Girls – Healthy Girls program returns in 2027 with an extra day (4 days total)! This program fills fast\, so be sure to fill out our camp interest form to be notified when registration opens. \nWHEN: 8 am-4:00 pm on Monday\, March 22nd\, 2027 to Thursday\, March 27th\, 2027 (Guilford County Schools spring break).\nWHO: 80 4th-6th grade Guilford County Schools district girls; specific focus on Title I schools \nThe overarching mission of Active Girls-Healthy Girls (AGHG) is to partner with the surrounding community to promote education\, access\, and opportunities for girls to be physically active throughout their lives\, fostering a lifetime of joy\, confidence\, and health through movement. Our camp aims to advance this mission over a four-day camp. \nThis experience will give the girls who attend the opportunity to be active when they otherwise may not be during their break. It will also give them a chance to try a variety of physical activities they may not have known about\, felt confident doing\, or been able to do. In addition\, we plan to provide education and prompt small-group discussions about the different challenges and uncertainties of being healthy and participating in physical activity. Through each of these activities\, we hope the girls take away more knowledge\, confidence\, and hope for a physically active and healthy future. Want to read more about AGHG\, follow here.
